Hasan Helimişi was born in 1907, Hopa/Artvin and died in 1976, Tbilisi. He is known as the creator, innovator and the major representative of Laz poetry. Hasan Helimişi’s life story is told in his own voice and embroidered onto the life of his daughter, her longings and regrets in her relationship with her father. Living in Turkey, she could never really know him before his death in Tbilisi. The film constitutes a mutual language beyond time between the father and his daughter who doesn’t speak the same language with him. In “Death of the Poet”, the Laz language turns into the language of a profound feeling of abandonment towards a country or a father.

Elif Ergezen

She graduated from Communication Department in Galatasaray University. She then obtained her Master's degree on Cinema from Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne University in France in 2005. She has worked on production and editing in several film projects.
